Communications Advisor – International Programmes

Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Nederland works towards a world where no one dies of AIDS anymore and where people are sexually healthy, so that everyone can love freely and without fear. We do this together with the people who are hit hardest by STIs and HIV due to discrimination and exclusion. We amplify their voices and support them with information, knowledge and funding. For the love of all. We are working towards this goal in the Netherlands, in two focus regions and in 10 countries worldwide.

To make our dream a reality, the Communications Team within the Marketing & Communications department, ensures that we provide reliable information, enabling people to choose safe and healthy sex as well as to work towards a world without AIDS through funding for prevention, treatment and cure.

For the Team Communications we are looking for a

Communications Advisor – International Programmes
32 hours per week

What does the team do and what will you do

Team Communications consists of several communication specialists who work on communication challenges for the international department, the national department, internal communications, and the organisation as a whole.

As a communications advisor, you work independently on a range of communication challenges and provide clear, practical advice to colleagues and project teams. You collaborate closely with the Communications Team and colleagues from the International Department, including the Advocacy team. The balance between planning and execution varies per project as does the need for offline or online communication.

In this role, you focus on international programmes such as Hands Off (sex workers), EmpowHer Fund (women and girls) and Key Populations, and you contribute to EU Advocacy. You ensure a clear communication approach, consistent messaging and strong visibility towards funders, policymakers and international partners.

Your responsibilities include:

·         Developing communication plans based on the work plans of the international programmes, the EU advocacy team, as well as the international communications strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisational strategy.

·         Providing communication advice to colleagues and international partners, and creating buyin for strategic and creative plans among internal and external stakeholders.

·         Coordinating and implementing communication activities together with colleagues and international partners, ensuring timely and highquality delivery.

·         Selecting the appropriate channels and (online) media, creating content in-house or coordinating with external writers and designers, and overseeing the consistent and effective deployment of this content across digital and social media platforms.

·         Tracking and evaluating communication results, adjusting strategies and activities based on insights and learnings to maximise impact.

What we offer
First of all, we offer you an ambitious and diverse organisation in which we cooperate and deliver quality based on appealing goals and clear roles in an accessible, open and inspiring atmosphere. This is how we contribute to a world without aids and a drastic decrease in the number of STIs.  You are welcome as you are, who you love or what you believe. We are curious about your talents and your social drive to work with us on our mission.

In addition, we offer:

·          An exciting and versatile position in a dynamic organization (with the intention to merge with Rutgers, the Dutch centre of expertise on sexuality, in 2026)

·          An employment contract initially for one year, after which the contract can be extended for an indefinite period of time in case of a positive performance evaluation and if there are sufficient financial resources

·          A salary between € 3.367,31 and € 5.352,79 gross per month (job profile Program Officer, scale 10) for 36 hours per week, grading will depend on your experience

·          An individual choice budget (IKB) of 16.96% that you can use at your own discretion for money, time or spend fiscally advantageous on products or services

·          Hybrid working: You will work at our office in Amsterdam (Sloterdijk) or partly from home.

·          Possibility of flexible working hours and setting your own schedule.

·          NS Businesscard = 100% reimbursement of your commuting expenses by public transport

·          208 hours of leave on a full-time basis (36 hours) and you can buy additional leave via the IKB

·          Personal development budget of €650 per year based on 36 hours

Are you

Someone who can look at issues from different perspectives, and connect with the communities we work with: people living with HIV, young people, children, LGBTQ+, sex workers, (ex-)drug users, ideally drawing on your own lived experience or have had close contact with members of these communities. And are you:

·         A driven, flexible communication advisor who connects easily, combining a helicopter view and strategic insight with a pragmatic approach

·         Someone with a project-based approach to assignments, and a good understanding of external politics, context and cultural diversity in our working field

·         Proactive, meticulous, sensitive in collaboration and strong in project management

Do you have

·         A relevant educational background with at least HBO-level thinking and working experience

·         At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in a communications advisor role

·         Experience and skills in the field of communication (e.g. advocacy, corporate communications or journalism)

·         Excellent spoken and written English skills, including editing skills (requirement: current residency in the Netherlands and entitled to work in the Netherlands)

·         Experience with, or affinity for Photoshop, Canva and video editing

A plus is:

·         Experience working in or supporting international advocacy

·         Experience at an NGO working with different partners and stakeholders

·         Fluency in spoken and written Dutch
